Hey, I'm Meryl!

I'm happy you're here

I want my clients to fall in love with fitness & the changes strength training has on their mind & body, and I want them to eat in ways that nourish without deprivation & guilt.

The absolute best feeling is when my clients reach their own power, opportunity, and potential through engaging consistently in an efficient, empowering, and effective fitness & nutrition program!

Let me tell you more about me!

I am the founder of POP Fitness, an idea that was born due to my love of educating, inspiring, and empowering others to achieve their health & wellness goals. The joy I get from fitness & helping others led me to an education and career in the health & wellness field.

My passion for an active, healthy lifestyle began at a relatively early age, and it all started with horses! I was 11 visiting my Nan in Wales, went for a horse ride on the beach.  The ride probably lasted 10 minutes, but that was all I needed to know that horses were going to be a big part of my life.  I phoned my mum back in Calgary and told her I "knew" how to ride a horse!  From that point on I lived & breathed horses and was determined to become the best rider I could be which meant learning that I needed to work on my fitness off the horses.  I wish I knew in my teens how important fitness was to the equestrian athlete, but I didn't tie it together until my early 20's. I still love horses, and although I don't compete anymore it will always be my number 1 sport and what steered my career in healthcare.

After that amazing 15 years in competitive equestrian sport. I dabbled in half-marathons, Ironman triathlons, fitness/figure competitions, and now simply a love of staying fit, strong, and healthy as I enter my late 40's!

I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada with my husband.  I stayed close to home and graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor's of Kinesiology (BKin) and later with a Master's of Education (MEd). I am a recently retired Certified Athletic Therapist with extensive clinical and field experience, as well as over 20 years teaching experience as a University instructor. I am a non-physician expert in acute knee injuries, a Certified Nutrition Consultant, and a Certified Macro Nutrition Coach.

My husband is a competitive golfer and that is another sport I have come to respect and enjoy. So much so, that in 2010 I certified as a golf fitness professional with the Titleist Performance Institute. My husband recently followed suit and combined his passion for golf & fitness with his own certifications.

I love teaching, educating, and sharing my experiences with students - so POP Fitness was a natural addition to my career.

I have worked with women over the past 10 years helping them reach their fitness & nutrition goals through challenging and effective programs like the Little Black Dress and my new Flexible Fat Loss Formula!

As I get older I tend to put more value on my time and choose to work out in smarter, more efficient ways to continue to achieve the results I want. I've tried many restrictive diets over the years, and as a Certified Nutrition Consultant and Certified Macro Nutrition Coach, I have learned restriction is NEVER the answer to moderation, balance & sustainability.  If you know me you know I'm not willing to give up my weekend ritual of Baileys & coffee!  I choose to eat in a flexible way that is enjoyable! NO deprivation. No restriction!

I pass along these balanced philosophies to my clients.  You can absolutely reach your goals without being miserable, without cutting out carbs, and without guilt. You can change your body using the most effective tool - tracking macros. The absolute best feeling is when my clients are progressing toward their goals AND realize they aren't missing out on anything - that they are still eating the foods they enjoy.

Overall I love staying active and thoroughly enjoy helping women realize the power, opportunity, and potential they have to reach their own health & wellness goals without giving up birthdays, BBQ's, or Baileys!

Fitness & sustainable, flexible nutrition is a gift you can give to your body, if you are ready to give your body that gift or are curious if online macro-nutrition coaching is for you, please take a look around POP Fitness and feel free to contact me with any questions you may have!.
